We check eye health, prescription, focusing, eye movements, and visual awareness using gentle lights and engaging targets. Parents are encouraged to bring a favourite toy to help their little one feel at ease. Toddlers (1–3 years): Duration 45-60min What to expect: They are given 45–60 minutes and we begin by playfully exploring objects in the room to help your toddler feel comfortable. If they’re happy to sit on their own, they can enjoy a ride in the “rocket chair”, but it’s just as easy to keep them on your lap if they prefer. Using simple, non-verbal tests, we can check how well they see, while a gentle light helps us measure their prescription and focusing skills. With special glasses, many toddlers enjoy looking at 3D pictures. By observing how they follow fun targets, we can detect early signs of delays in eye movements or eye teaming. When possible, we also assess colour vision and watch how they use their eyes and hands together to explore their surroundings. Children from 4–12 years: Duration 45-60min What to expect: they have more advanced assessments, lasting 45–60 minutes. From around age 4, children can complete near adult-level eye tests, and by age 5 most can manage the same assessments as adults. For those not yet confident with letters or numbers, we use pictures and colours instead. We encourage a parent to sit in during the exam, though siblings are best kept in the waiting area to avoid distractions. Photos are taken to check eye health, and children wear special “funny glasses” that allow us to test both sensory and motor eye teaming. Eye movements are assessed against age-appropriate milestones, and focusing is checked using lenses that change quickly to see how well they adapt. They will also look through the “big glasses with lenses” to measure prescription and focusing ability, and a reliable colour vision test can be completed. Students & Teens: Duration 45-60min What to expect: Many teens and students prefer to come to their eye exam on their own, but parents are always welcome to join. After the assessment, we share feedback with parents while also helping teens understand that their eyes are now their own responsibility. The exam includes cool eye photos and an OCT scan that gives us a “baseline” for the future, helping to pick up early signs of things like glaucoma. We also check prescription, how well the eyes work together, and focusing skills. Just as important, we chat about everyday habits—like screen time, studying, and rest—that can make a big difference in keeping vision sharp and healthy.Adults *Ages 25-40 yearsAges 40-50 yearsAges 50+ yearsAdults: Ages 25-40 years: Duration 45-60min What to expect: A comprehensive eye exam begins with detailed photos of your eyes, a pressure check, and an OCT scan to assess eye health. We then test your vision to see whether glasses or contact lenses are needed. Eye alignment, posture, and focusing ability are also evaluated to determine if stress-relieving lenses may be helpful. Colour vision is checked, along with any additional tests recommended for visual strain. We finish by discussing healthy visual habits, including practical tips for managing screen time.Adults: Ages 40 - 50 years: Duration 45-60min What to expect: Your eye exam is much more than just reading a chart. We start by taking detailed photos of your eyes, checking eye pressure, and doing an OCT scan to look at the health of your eyes. After that, we test your eyesight to see if glasses or contact lenses could help you see more clearly. We’ll also check how well your eyes work together — including alignment, posture, and focusing. If you need help with reading, we’ll talk you through the different options such as reading glasses, multifocals, or bifocals, and help you choose what best suits your lifestyle and daily needs. Don’t forget to bring along your current and any older pairs of glasses to your appointment. Adults: Ages 50+ years: Duration 45-60min What to expect: Your comprehensive eye test includes eye photos, pressure checks, and an OCT scan to assess eye health. We’ll test your vision to see if glasses or contacts could help and check how your eyes work together. If needed, we’ll discuss reading glasses, multifocals, or bifocals to suit your lifestyle. For dry eyes, we may use special drops to examine your tears and lids and prescribe appropriate treatment. Don’t forget to bring your current and previous glasses. Contact Lenses *First time trying contact lensesA full contact lens examCorneal health checkFirst time trying contact lenses: Duration 60min What to expect: After your comprehensive eye test, the appropriate test lenses will be ordered, and a 60-minute appointment will be scheduled to check how they fit your eyes. During this session, we’ll show you how to insert, remove, and care for your lenses properly. To ensure your eyes stay healthy while wearing contact lenses, a final 15-minute check will be done after 1–2 weeks of use. A full contact lens exam: Duration 45–60 minutes What to expect: Please come wearing your contact lenses and bring your glasses, lens boxes, and container. We assess eye health with photos, pressure tests, OCT scans, and yellow diagnostic drops to check the cornea and tear film. Your prescription will be updated, and we’ll help you choose lenses and glasses suited to your lifestyle. Corneal health check: Duration 15-minute What to expect: corneal health check can be booked. This is a quick safety check using diagnostic drops to make sure your eyes remain healthy before renewing your prescription. Your prescription will not be tested. More Complex Cases: Duration 120 min What to expect: These tests are recommended alongside a comprehensive eye exam when you or your child experience difficulties at school, see double, have a squint, want a more thorough evaluation, or are interested in vision therapy. They can often be done on the same day, which is especially helpful if you travel far or have limited time off from work or school. If you’re unsure whether these tests are needed, the comprehensive eye exam can be done first. The optometrist will then advise if binocular and visual development tests are necessary. The tests are tailored to the age and needs of the child or adult the assessment will include: • Measuring functional visual fields • Gross visual motor skills (core strength, crawling, jumping, balancing) – dress comfortably as you will be moving around on the floor. • Fine visual motor skills (copying, writing speed and accuracy) • Visual perception (memory, discrimination, and more) We are mindful of concentration and incorporate breaks and a variety of tasks to ensure the most accurate and comfortable assessment. Neuro-Optometry: Duration 120min What to expect: The type and number of tests we do will depend on the severity of the trauma and the person’s ability to complete them. Our practice is wheelchair accessible — the easiest route is to park in front of the practice and use the ramp at Vida e Caffe. After dropping off the patient, the car can then be parked. Please note that our bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible. Where possible, we’ll take eye photos, measure eye pressure, and do an OCT scan to check eye health. If this isn’t possible, we’ll perform a basic health screening with an ophthalmoscope instead. We always move at the patient’s pace, taking breaks if needed. The most important tests are done first to guide the best treatment plan. Depending on the patient, tests may include: - Visual acuity and visual fields - Eye teaming and stereovision - Eye movements and focusing - Egocentric midline shift – Localisation - Visual Neglect - Prism use. Because of fatigue, not all tests can always be completed in one session — in that case, they will be spread across consecutive appointments. Therapy and syntonic light therapy, which is done at home, will be prescribed. Follow-up visits are usually scheduled at 2 weeks and 4 weeks to monitor progress. Syntonic Light Therapy: Duration 120min What to expect: A comprehensive eye test will be done to give us a full picture of your vision and eye health. We begin with detailed eye photos, eye pressure testing, and an OCT scan. Your eyesight will then be tested to see if glasses or contact lenses are needed. We also take a closer look at eye alignment, posture, and focusing to determine if stress-relieving glasses could help. A functional visual field test and any other tests related to visual strain will also be performed. Part of your care may include discussing good visual habits, such as managing screen time. If needed, syntonic light therapy will be prescribed, and a unit will be sent home so you can do the therapy yourself. You may also receive additional eye exercises to practice at home. The home therapy usually takes about 30 minutes a day. To track your progress, we’ll see you again for a 30-minute follow-up at week 2 and week 4. Driver’s Licence Screening: Duration 15 min What to expect: We offer a free 15-minute driver’s licence vision screening (booking required). Please bring your ID and current driving glasses. The screening includes reading letters with and without glasses and a quick visual field check. If any issues are detected, we may recommend a full eye exam, either immediately or at another appointment. Please share any specific needs or informationSubmit
